Zentangle Zendalas® (Two Sundays, April 27 and May 4, 12:30-3:30pm)
Terri Greenberg
Certified Zentangle Teacher

The meditative artform that is Zentangle draws you into a creative zone with deliberate, repetitive patterns that form entrancing abstract designs. Zendalas take you beyond the squares of Zentangle into a round form where your lines echo and repeat, dip and swirl through the space, and result in beautiful works of art. If you're thinking of exploring the world of Zentangle, you can take the first step with Zendalas. If you've been making your Zentangle marks already, you can move into a new dimension with Zendalas. Everything you need for creating beautiful art is included; additional supplies will be available for purchase from
the instructor.

Simplifying Those Annoying Camera Settings on Your DSLR (Saturday, May 3, 10am-4pm)
Nick Kelsh
Renowned Philadelphia Photographer

Join Nick Kelsh for a day that will clarify exactly how f-stops, shutter speeds, and ISO work on your digital single lens reflex camera. You will leave empowered and confident to take the pictures you have only dreamt about. The class starts at the Arboretum's beautiful and comfortable Horticulture Center as Nick uses a "live" projected camera to teach you the various settings on your camera. The class will also go outside for a photo safari designed to emphasize composition and lighting. Nick will review the process he goes through and the settings he selects as he shoots a portrait of each class member. Then you will go inside to view how Nick did...what worked, what didn't work, and why. This is not a day when you shoot beautiful photographs of the Arboretum-although you may. It is a day that will give you the tools to photograph the Arboretum, the world, and the people you love-for years to come. If your camera has you baffled, this class is for you. This class meets at the Horticulture Center at Bloomfield Farm. Enter the Arboretum on the road opposite from the public garden entrance. Park in the parking lot and follow the signs to the Horticulture Center.

The Art of Japanese Ink Painting (Saturday, May 17, 1-3pm)
Allison Zito
Artist and Teacher

Sumi-e is the art of Japanese ink painting, a noble and time honored pursuit of the scholar. This craft teaches much more than the art of ink painting. The techniques we will learn to paint bamboo are the basic strokes used to create all forms of Japanese ink painting. The art is in the touch of the brush stroke, the quality of the line, appreciation of the natural world, and the beauty in asymmetry. All supplies are provided. Come to class dressed to paint.
